First off, please tell us a little bit about you- your background.
I am just a old lady who likes working with her hands. I was told as a very young girl they could put me on the floor and give me ribbon and plastic beads and I would just play for hours. Was a art major in high school and I even won a small scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago.
How would you describe your current glasswork?
Beads and dishes and bowls oh my. I love what I am doing and learn something new everyday.
When did you begin working with glass, and why?
I saw a ad for a bead class, took it and was just pulled in by the beauty of what you can make.
What is your favorite part about the medium of glass?
The colors and shapes you can make
What area/concepts do you feel you will explore next in the world of glass?
I may want to play with 90coe but I have no room for it in my area right now. Maybe cutting and grinding would be a better way to go for now. But I am just having fun with what I am doing. It is not work it is really enjoyment.
Who are some of your favorite glass artists?
Not a nice question.......I love all my glass artist friends they each do such different type of work and are always willing to share I ideas. Just love all the glass artist I talk to.
Do you listen to music while working? If so, what type?
Moody Blues, Tina Turner and any thing from the 60's
What piece have you made that you're most proud of? (If you have a link to it on Flickr, please share)
Every Single Item I make. They all make me proud. Now this piece I Just Love It taught me so much
When you have a really good glass day, do you celebrate?
Always, and I am not telling how, you would all envy me!!!!!!!!!!
When things don't go quite right in the studio, what comforts you?
Mocha Coffee, I bet you all thought it was going to be a appletini!!!
Do you have any tips/advice that you would feel comfortable sharing with other glass artists?
Just never give up with your art. Today could be a bad day but tomorrow is always better. Never be ashamed to ask questions. No one knows everything. Be respectful of your art and just be happy with it.
